NEWS NEWS: LAST WEEK WHILE NIGERIANS WERE "BASING ON LOGISTICS"

And so dearly beloved, while we were all busy rooting for BBNaija housemates and sloganizing “based on logistics” everywhere, these are some of the many things that happened while you were enmeshed  in the BBNaija euphoria especially in the last one week.
Last week was a sad one for members, students, friends and family members of the students and staff of Queens college as they bade their final ‘goodbyes’ to yet another student Praise Sodipo, an orphan who died as a result of the bacterial infection outbreak in the school sometime back as she was laid to rest on Thursday. Her death made it the third fatality recorded from the outbreak after two other students Vivian Osuiniyi and Bithia Ituhua had died earlier even as about 1,222 students were reported to have taken ill with about 16 others hospitalized at the time. Very sad one indeed.

For those who have been believing in an over-night turnaround as per the stability of light in Nigeria, sorry to disappoint you with the unenthusiastic view from Mayowa Adeleye ,a public affairs analyst who was reported to have written from Canada to Nigerians stating that Nigeria cannot have 24/7 electricity supply anytime soon as it does not have the funds to make it happen adding that the FG is already ‘choked’ financially even as the current local investors that bought NEPA/PHCN assists from GEJ led FG in 2013 are obviously financially handicapped as well. Oops! There goes our hope for light in a bubble.

It was reported that a German national Brenard Christo died after collapsing at the Murtala  Mohammed airport Lagos, while waiting to board a local flight to Benin. He was said to have died at an undisclosed hospital.

Once again, EFCC was in the news also that about N448m was discovered in an abandoned bureau d’ change shop within a plaza in Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday night. According to reports, the Lagos state zonal office of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) upon counting the money which was stashed in ghana must go bags in high denominations of 500 and 1000 naira notes amounted to the sum of N448million naira. Meanwhile the ant-graft agency is investigating the matter in order to unravel the source and those behind it.

Good news for all prospective JAMBITES as JAMB deemed it fit to extend UTME registration and examination, given the high level of stress and technical hitches which prospective candidates are undergoing at the accredited centres and offices just to register.

Court also remanded two MMM agents in prison over breach of trust.

Suicide bombers didn’t want to be left out in the news as well, so they decided to attack a mosque in Maiduguri. However the two female suicide bombers who could not gain access into the Mosque after they were intercepted at the entrance died in the bomb blast which occurred after one of them detonated hers, thereby injuring five others while she and her partner died in the process.

Do I need to talk about Apostle Suleiman’s saga? Makes no sense to many right now, however, just a mention that Stephanie Otobo was said to have released her statement of account in a video (though I haven’t seen it. Don’t think I will anyway) just to drive in the nail further that the accusations over her involvement with the Apostle is true. Nevertheless from all indications, looks like many people have moved on from the gist thus leaving that story for those who are not fully engaged doing anything meaningful with their lives or those who are all out to play the game of “name and shame”.

And in case you didn’t know, Efe, one of the housemates of the just concluded edition of BBNaija reality show which put Nigeria in a ‘lock down’ for almost an hour given the grand finale which took place last night, emerged the winner and went home with a brand new SUV and a mouthwatering sum of N25million naira. There is also news going round that a moneybag is also going to give him more than the N25m and another SUV as well. Hmm! What a way to go especially in these harsh times. Like someone noted, Efe is truly a guy with “Dangerous grace”.

BBNaija: EFE WINS "BASED ON LOGISTICS" GAME OVER!

Now that the wahala of ‘based on logistics’ given the Big Brother Naija reality show, thanks to payporte is over; Nigerians at home and in the diaspora will let me rest. And most importantly, the ones based at home in Nigeria as they will go back to face reality as all the frenzy will now ‘pipe down’. Even though I am happy Efenation won! *winks*

In all the years that this show has aired, I swear…oops… I meant, I can lay a good wager that brains behind the show include this year’s official sponsor has never smiled to the banks the way they have most likely done in this edition. I say this without mincing words because in all the years, I have never witness so much frenzy, hype, fights, love, hate, you name it, for just one programme like was witnessed this period; not only on all social media platforms but on the streets and by word of mouth as well. BBNaija was in nearly all conversations.

Haba! Many of you witnessed situations where people insulted themselves and almost got into fights (I’m sure there were some though not to my knowledge) all in the name of rooting for their favourite housemates.

One thing though, I just realized again that Nigerians can be very PASSIONATE about something when they want to be. This realisation of how passionate they can be came to the fore again in FULL FORCE.

Kai! I love Naija!! This whole period, despite the economic situation, Nigerians went all out to vote, vote, vote spending their hard earned cash. Even yours sincerely was caught up in the excitement as I found myself voting a couple of times *winks*.

But wait a minute, “how does this affect the price of fish” like some persons opined when they saw some posts on social media.  According to these opinions, many of the people who were busy rooting strongly for their favourite housemates on these social platforms have been Christians for donkey years, yet they have never done any form of evangelism to anyone or such that would equate the type of energy expended while rooting for these ‘nation’ housemates.

Please don’t crucify me because I have not come to judge anyone in any way, just stating the obvious.

Aside many being Christians who don’t evangelize, there were also those who no doubts work as sales executives or marketers in many organisations or even self employed but have never gone marketing their services the way they did for the housemates. Yet when it comes to performance reviews in the office especially for those who are employees, they start shaking but would do ‘nada’ or put such energy they put in rooting for their ‘nation’ into their jobs. If they did their jobs with so much passion as they did rooting, performance on the jobs would not be an issue for them. Maybe, just maybe.

I could go on and on but wouldn’t like to bore you any further if you are or stress you with too much excitement if you are already excited enough by this topic, especially if it was your favourite housemate that emerged winner.

Now, Efe has won and going home with the prize including a whooping sum of N25million naira (I like the sound off that money) and BB as well as Payporte going home with same amount in multiple counts while the rest of us, especially the rooters, have gone back to normalcy without a ‘dime’ from the project and the irony is that many of the housemates may never meet their very strong rooters who almost burst their kidneys while rooting or even get to hear about those who went on the streets, fought or almost fought for them. Such is the irony of life.

Enough said, I hope Efe would spend this win wisely as we have had people come and go in several reality shows.

Some of the winners and ‘almost winners’ in the past have made the best out of their participation in some of these reality shows, while another another group of them have done little or nothing with the fame. And so Efe the ball is in your court to make the best of whatever you have learnt, gained or garnered from this experience.

And for all those other housemates who did not emerge winner, lick those wounds fast and let them heal faster so that you can get back on the track of reality even as you also use the experiences from having taken part in the show, to better your lives out there as well. If you do not know, make sure you always use BBNaija as one of your claims to fame, you deserve it, so use it and use it right and fast while it’s still hot NOW.

And for the rooters, wakeup! BBNaija is over, so no more flooding the social media platform with the slogan “BASED ON LOGISTICS” anymore.

Hmmm! Sigh of relief. Tension is over. I am out for now

AS THE ENVIRONMENT CHANGES SO DO PEOPLE, INCLUDING TEENAGERS

Written by: Shalom Folashade

As we live every minute of every day we discover that our immediate environment changes. And just as the environment changes so do people change. Gone are the days when young girls and ladies, were truly young girls and ladies who accepted and acted their ages especially in the 90’s - as much as I can remember – when girls even though many looked matured body wise, they, at least a very large number, were very matured intellectually. Sadly, the same cannot be said about this present generation of young girls, as nowadays more than 80% of them cannot just wait to grow up. Do we blame it on technology, society or parents? You tell me.

Imagine seeing a girl in secondary school who is barely eighteen trying to act twenty-one, I mean it amazes me how young girls are willing to go any length just to mature fast. They believe there are certain processes they need to go through to get to the stage of maturity on time. You would be surprised to hear that a lot of them make concerted effort have sexual intercourse at a very early stage just to feel more like a woman, they date older men and of course some even go as far as running away from home because they feel they can now make decisions on their own.

Don’t get me wrong I am not against young girls fixing 22 inches length weave or dressing to impress, I mean these things are all part of growing up as a teenager and wanting to explore because they become conscious of their environment and want to do right by everybody, but teenagers need to understand that there is more to life than all they see, they don’t realize that the world out there is not easy and that life does not give a free pass to anyone no matter how many connections you might have, life in one word I would say is “messy.”

Gone are those days when young girls dreamed to have a stable family, always had life goals that they would go to any length to make sure they achieved, and that is because there were a lot of illiterate parents that struggled to send their daughters to school, I mean these days we go to expensive schools, even in this economy some families are not affected by the meltdown and so there is no value placed on parents’ effort. Young girls of this century just want to live in the moment.

And as funny as this may sound some parents are so unaware that they do not know what is going on in the lives of their teenage children, so many young girls and guys dress shabbily, they now do drugs, they even raise their voices at their parents and counter their decisions. I mean why won’t such a child feel like he/she can make decisions for themselves. We feel comfortable blaming so many children now for the way they are but we forget that these children have parents that have refused to pay attention to them. We are the architects of our misfortune and so when these teenagers grow older they begin to have life time regrets.
Wishing they did things differently which is the right way.

Let us place more focus on what is ahead of us, yesterday is gone and tomorrow will come after all and so we can’t escape what tomorrow holds for us because whatever we meet in the future is as a result of the decisions we make now.

LET THERE BE LIGHT: AMBODE LIGHTS UP LAGOS

Light indeed cannot be comprehended by darkness when they meet. As a matter of fact, they cannot even meet because from experience, once darkness perceives light from afar, it indeed flees.

Light is undeniably powerful that’s why people who are in love will use phrases such as “she lights up my world”, “she lit up in excitement as soon as she saw him” and other phrases as such. There is always a sense of security whenever you are in a well-lit environment as everything and everyone become visible.

And so I felt really good the other day while out for the night (which was unusual for me), I realised that I wasn’t in a hurry to get back home as it felt as though there was no point rushing back home like I would usually do whenever I find myself out as  nearly all the places which were usually dark at about that time of the night were all lit up with street lights and then it occurred to me “aha! So this is what Governor Ambode’s ‘light up Lagos’ project is all about”. Was I impressed? Yes I was and I hope this spreads to all other parts of Lagos soon.

From the on goings, given the roads under construction, it is expected that they would be completed with necessary road infrastructure which includes lighting, walkways and properly built drainages amongst others.

Until now, I have never had to say a good word about Politicians as they rarely make good their promises. But for this present Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode who one can aptly describe as a jolly good fellow that does not only enjoy being called a youth at heart but also an unrepentant performer. We look forward to seeing more visible footprints, development wise across the length and breadth of Lagos, Nigeria’s centre of excellence.
