About a year or two ago, I replied
an individual who sent a post on Timi Dakolo saying ‘Timi can never blow’
meaning Timi would always be an upstart or upcoming act in the industry.
Haba! Was my first reaction,
thinking “how can a human being say that
to someone he/she has never met aside seeing him on TV and hearing his songs on
radio? I also thought that was too much of a witch-hunting ‘bad belle’ as
many would call it.
And it was the same reaction today
when I read in a Nigerian newspaper, on how Simi, the ‘JAMB Question’ crooner
responded on twitter to a fan who took her for ‘ugly’.
According to the report, the fan who
is known as @BodeThomas had written in what many have termed ‘a very insulting
manner’ “Simi is not fine” and with Simi responding “I apologise if anyone gave
you the impression that your opinion matters. It won’t happen again. I honestly
don’t know why anyone would feel the need to bring people down, it won’t add to
your value, I just don’t get it”. So I thought
too girl! What counts is you being happy and getting better at what you do!!
The bitter truth is, being a
celebrity, you would see all sorts. Even though we all know that there is some
sort of ‘bad belle’ in many people when they see others rising, it is shameful
to see some others going beyond just having that fleeting feeling to baring
unfounded grudges to the extent of trying to pull the other down or make them
sad by way of the things said or publicized about them.
Let’s not forget that these celebs
are humans. And just like everyone else, they have their pains so it would do a
lot of them and their careers some deal of good if we don’t add to their pains
by way of what we throw around on social media about them.
My two cents though!
